Reminds me of a song that my brother-in-law penned back in high school about his beat up car to the tune of "This Silver Haired Daddy Of Mine" ...as near as I remember it...
On a grease covered spot on the race track,
I was covered all over with grime,
Trying to stuff all the rods back,
In this beat up old hot rod of mine.
Something blew on the stretch of the fifth lap,
Just as I over took number nine,
I came to the rapid conclusion,
Something's wrong with this hot rod of mine.
If I could erase, my smashed up old face,
And bring back just half of my hair,
If Dupont would grant me the powder,
Just to blow up the pages of time,
I'd give all I own,
If I could just disown,
This beat up old hot rod of mine.
This has stuck in my head since high school days. It makes me smile because I had ridden in that beat up old car before my brother-in-law ended up with it. The front floor boards were GONE and you could see the road underneath you as we were riding along. So by the time he ended up with it, it was REALLY beat up! Which I am sure inspired the words to this song. He and his sister sang it for us during an assembly one day and I never forgot it. I had "adopted" him as my brother as I never had any brothers and not knowing that one day he would become my brother-in-law. I pray for him as he is not doing well these days. I hope that God will heal his heart.
